□ Personality: To be short, Himawari is a friendly, caring and lovely person who sometimes comes off as a bit standoffish or even snobbish because of how she reject invitations to... everything. She smiles through a mask, hiding her true feelings most of the time. Under it all she is strongly guarded and standoffish mostly to help protect others, especially those she considers friends. Bad things happen around her and she doesn't want that to affect those she cares about.

She sometimes seems like she has a split personality, or at least those people who get close enough to see the real her. On the outside she makes sure people see that she’s smiling, friendly, cheerful and energetic. The girl seems like a ray of sunshine. She’s girly and feminine, liking skirts, dresses, bows, ribbons, pink and other girly things. On the outside she might come across to people who don’t know her as a bit ditsy and flighty, mostly because she chooses to ignore things that would make it hard for her to smile.

On the inside however she’s trying very hard not to connect to people. After all connecting tends to be the reason people get hurt around her. Because of her bad luck curse she’s distanced herself from a lot of people. She can almost be classified as depressed if she didn’t try so hard to make sure she didn’t look to be. The curse has it so very few people can go unharmed by knowing her. Her parents being two people and her friend Doumeki being another. Anyone else tends to get hurt and when that happens she wants to shrink back and run. Get away from them. Instead she smiles and tries to fuss a bit before detaching herself, hoping they’ll never learn that it was her fault. Her fault for knowing them.

Back home she was a student in a private high school (Cross High School or Cross Private Academy). Himawari is a student with good grades, proven by the fact that she’s art of the student council (which one has to have good grades to be part of). She enjoys watching the Archery and Kendo teams practice and play and appears to be a busy girl with school things, and yet she’s not that close to anyone. Some girls didn’t like her because she seemed like a snob because she kept rejecting invites to after school things, others think she’s an adorable person. No one really knows her well.

Though she’s very hard to get ‘close’ to when she does have friends she will try to protect them as best she can. Even when people aren’t exactly friends she worries about them. Take the case of ‘Angel-san” a Ouiji like game that contacts those in the beyond. Her neighbor, a young girl who is a student at a different school was in trouble with the Angel-san game. So worried about her she went and asked Watanuki, Doumeki and Yuuko-san to come meet her in the park to talk about it. She was worried for the girl, thus she sought help for her. It’s unknown if she was worried about the girl because her bad luck might have affected her or if she was really just worried that something bad in general happened to the girl. Either way it proves she cares about people in general.

My personal thoughts and take on her personality: Because in xxxHolic we see her mostly with her masks, the show she puts on and very little in depth information, I want to point out that I do tend to play her on both sides of the scale. I don’t play her strictly a ray of sunshine but I try not to let her sad and troubled side show very often, unless others have been around her for a while. Her character is made up of Connections. It’s how the curse works and how she seems to work. She tries hard to not make connections when all she wants to do is be connected to people. It’s hard and tiresome for the girl but her desire to not let others be hurt keeps her distant and smiling.

I like to think that she enjoys writing, romance novels, romance stories, as well as the stereotypical hero stereotypes. Knights in armor and swords, samurai warriors, heroes in any culture protecting others. She finds stories like that fun and romance novels are the way she gets to feel that feeling, as she’s sure she can’t properly let herself fall in love with anyone. Later in the series it is shown that she can have a normal life, and she confesses her love for Watanuki, but the details of her relationship with her husband (or even his name) aren’t revealed.

In short, she’s friendly, cheerful and hides her true emotions inside. Protective of her friends, what few she has, and worries about everyone. She’s a strong girl who works well with being independent but also wishes to be part of a group of people. In the Ariel setting she will be leery at first, unsure, uncomfortable, and possibly in need of re-education at least once, but once she realizes her curse shouldn’t be a problem as it would be at home, she’ll be more into the setting.

□ Gender: Female
□ Appearance: Himawari is around five foot five inches tall, slender in waist but curvy in body. She is Japanese, though very pale for a Japanese girl, like she doesn't see the sun often. It's considered very pretty, especially with her extremely long jet black hair. Her hair is, as i said, very long, curly and reaches well beyond her rear. She tends to keep it up in two pig tails, a pony tail, or lose behind her head, almost always with some hair ribbons of some sort. The curl is almost always in perfect ringlets but can sometimes seem bushy. She takes extra good care of her hair and loves playing with it.

She has a strange set of teal colored eyes, almost greenish blue, strange for people of her heritage, and very pretty. She dresses in cute clothing though modest. Her high school uniform seems to fit her well and is comfortable. Her skirts are always short but never too short or revealing. She enjoys girly clothing, skirts, dresses, short shorts and somehow manages to look like a polite decent young woman like she is.

On her back is a mess of long painful looking scars that she keeps hidden. They run from her neck, shoulders and to the small of her back. These scars were given to her as a price to save someone’s life. She keeps them proudly, though she hides them so people don't worry or get the wrong idea. She is no hero. It was her fault that the boy was hurt, so she keeps these as not only her price but her reminder. She finds nothing heroic about them. Because of these scars she w ears nothing to show off her back and tends to wear high necked shirts. If she wears something with a lower back she'll keep her hair down.

She appears to be athletic in build but also very femme and girly. She also appears to be a bit of an airhead at times and overly friendly and all smiles. It's said she can come off to have a split personality, to those who really know her (which is so very few). The girl is all smiles and polite and charming and kindness. A sweet appearance to anyone. Not all smiles will reach her eyes and if she's being honest with herself or others her real mood shows better.

□ Abilities/Powers: Natural Bad Luck to others
It's hard to explain how it works really. It's not really a supernatural power or anything she can control. It's more of a curse. When people are around her, or make a connection to her, bad things tend to happen. Sometimes it's as simple as a stubbed toe, or losing one’s car keys. Other times it's as horrific as a suicide attempt, or a truck running a person over. Over the years there have been many accidents that have taken lives or ruined them, most of which she blames herself for.

Her grandmother took her to a temple to see a priest, who checked her for spirits or possessions. That priest is rumored/hinted to be Doumeki’s grandfather, who couldn’t find anything wrong with the girl. Nothing to remove or exorcise from her. She was just born with this bad luck curse and there was no cute for it. Only a few people were protected from her. Her mother and father, Doumeki, and perhaps Yuuko and Mokona. The list is rather short. She’s not even sure about her Grandmother, who died shortly after taking her to the priest. Himawari isn’t sure if she died because of bad luck or old age.

How I play her: Her bad luck is passed on through connections It’s not clear how, in the series it happens. There are times where she has hooked her arm into Watanuki’s arm and he’s been fine, but other times she’s linked pinkies and he had a bad day and lost the feeling in that pinky, or she tapped him on a shoulder and he fell out a window three stories high (later said to be his fault, not her bad luck however). Other times it’s as simple as being ‘connected’ to her from conversation or location. A neighbor’s house burnt down after she ran over to collect her ball from their yard when she was a child. A teacher had relationship problems that ended in a suicide just because she was in his class.

I tend to play it randomly and with talking to other players over it. However, here I believe her curse would be suppressed. Seeing as they might see it as something like a STD, really. It would affect those she had sex with, and thus would be no good. So I’ll be playing her with the thought that her curse is there, out of habit, but that the chip suppresses it like a power. If this isn’t how it would work, let me know! I can play her with or without her curse.

□ Personal Items:
She won’t have much on her. Her school uniform (white high collar shirt, tall waste skirt, shoes, socks, etc). Her school bag with a note book inside, homemade cookies that she wanted to give Doumeki and hadn’t yet, and some other school odds and ends. Nothing really all that important to her. At this point in canon she didn’t have much on her and I don’t think her bird, Tanpopo comes to school with her. So I’m leaving him at home.
